...SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS EXPECTED IN THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS ABOVE 2500 FEET ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY...

.A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM ALOFT WILL DROP SOUTHEASTWARD FROM THE
GREAT LAKES ACROSS THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIAN REGION TONIGHT. MUCH
COLDER AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION WITH THIS SYSTEM THIS
EVENING...CHANGING RAIN TO SNOW FROM HIGHER ELEVATIONS IN THE
EVENING INTO THE LOWER ELEVATIONS AFTER MIDNIGHT. BRISK NORTHWEST
WINDS AND VERY COLD TEMPERATURES ALOFT WILL ENHANCE SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS ABOVE 2500 FEET...ESPECIALLY ON NORTHWEST FACING
SLOPES. THE SNOW SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED TO EVENTUALLY DIMINISH BY
SATURDAY EVENING.

TO 8 PM EDT SATURDAY...

* EVENT...SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS BETWEEN 4 AND 8 INCHES ARE
  EXPECTED FOR MOST LOCATIONS ABOVE 2500 FEET. LOCALLY HIGHER
  AMOUNTS UP TO A FOOT OR MORE WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE
  HIGHEST PEAKS ABOVE 5000 FEET. ELEVATIONS BELOW 2500 FEET
  SHOULD RECEIVE BETWEEN 1 AND 4 INCHES.

* TIMING...RAIN WILL INITIALLY CHANGE TO SNOW FRIDAY AFTERNOON OVER
  THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS...WITH THE SNOW LEVEL LOWERING DOWN INTO
  VALLEY LOCATIONS AFTER MIDNIGHT. SNOW SHOWERS WILL LIKELY
  CONTINUE THROUGH SATURDAY ACROSS HIGHER ELEVATIONS...BEFORE
  DIMINISHING SATURDAY EVENING.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL IS EXPECTED TO BECOME HAZARDOUS ON ROADS
  ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND EAST
  TENNESSEE. DOWNED TREES WILL BE POSSIBLE DUE TO THE SNOW
  ACCUMULATING ON FOLIAGE STILL LEFT ON MANY TREES. TRAVEL IS
  DISCOURAGED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW
ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. IN ADDITION...
SNOWFALL INTENSITIES WILL BE HEAVY ENOUGH TO SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCE
VISIBILITIES AT TIMES. TRAVEL IS DISCOURAGED. IF TRAVEL IS
UNAVOIDABLE...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR
