THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ALBUQUERQUE HAS EXPANDED THE

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH TO INCLUDE THE SAN FRANCISCO RIVER VALLEY OF
  WESTERN NEW MEXICO.

* THROUGH LATE TONIGHT

* ABUNDANT MOISTURE IN PLACE AND PASSING DISTURBANCES ALOFT WILL
  PRODUCE SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE
  OF HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING. STORMS SHOULD BECOME MOST
  WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE WESTERN HIGH TERRAIN OF NEW MEXICO THIS
  AFTERNOON AND INTO THE EVENING. VERY SLOW STORM MOTIONS ARE
  EXPECTED WITH MOST CELLS DRIFTING TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST OR SOUTH.

* AREAS ON THE WESTERN PERIPHERY OF THE WHITEWATER-BALDY BURN SCAR
  AND AREAS DOWNSTREAM INTO THE SAN FRANCISCO RIVER BASIN WILL BE
  ESPECIALLY SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLASH FLOODING. SLOW-MOVING STORMS
  WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE TO TWO
  INCHES IN A SHORT TIME...LEADING TO EXCESSIVE RUNOFF OF NOT ONLY
  WATER...BUT ALSO POSSIBLE ASH...LOGS...AND OTHER DEBRIS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO
FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLASH
FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF NORTH AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO...INCLUDING THE
  FOLLOWING AREAS...CENTRAL HIGHLANDS...EAST SLOPES SANGRE DE
  CRISTO MOUNTAINS...ESTANCIA VALLEY...JEMEZ MOUNTAINS...NORTHEAST
  HIGHLANDS...NORTHWEST HIGHLANDS...SANDIA/MANZANO MOUNTAINS...
  SANTA FE METRO AREA...SOUTHERN SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS ABOVE
  9500 FEET...SOUTHWEST MOUNTAINS...WEST CENTRAL HIGHLANDS...WEST
  CENTRAL MOUNTAINS AND WEST SLOPES SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS.

* THROUGH LATE TONIGHT

  DRIFTING TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST OR SOUTH.

* LOCATIONS WHERE THE GROUND IS ALREADY SATURATED FROM RECENT
  RAINFALL WILL BE FAVORED FOR FLASH FLOODING. OTHER VULNERABLE
  LOCATIONS WILL INCLUDE STEEP TERRAIN...URBAN AREAS AND BURN
  SCARS. KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON ARROYOS AND SMALL STREAMS... AND
  STAY OUT OF FLOODED LOW WATER CROSSINGS. MONITOR THE LATEST
  FORECASTS CLOSELY AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION IF A
  WARNING OR ADVISORY IS ISSUED.
