...NO EXTREME OR EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT IN NEW MEXICO...
...7 PERCENT OF THE STATE IN SEVERE DROUGHT...
...34 PERCENT OF THE STATE IN MODERATE TO SEVERE DROUGHT...

SYNOPSIS...

THE AVERAGE STATEWIDE PRECIPITATION FOR MAY 2015 WAS 2.45 INCHES
WHICH WAS 1.40 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS WAS THE 8TH WETTEST MAY
ON RECORD...AT 233 PERCENT OF NORMAL.

2015 STARTED OUT VERY WELL WITH THE JANUARY AVERAGE STATEWIDE
PRECIPITATION 231 PERCENT OF NORMAL. FEBRUARY WAS NOT AS IMPRESSIVE
BUT DID END UP WITH A STATEWIDE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION OF 115 PERCENT
OF NORMAL. UNLIKE JANUARY...FEBRUARY DELIVERED MUCH NEEDED SNOW TO
THE SAN JUAN AND SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS. MARCH WAS DRIER BUT
STILL MANAGED TO DELIVER NEAR NORMAL PRECIPITATION. APRIL WAS ACTIVE
AGAIN WITH MORE ABOVE AVERAGE PRECIPITATION. THIS LED INTO A VERY
WET MAY FOR THE STATE. SEVERAL ROUNDS OF STRONG TO LOCALLY SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS BROUGHT HEAVY RAINS TO PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN
NEW MEXICO ON A DAILY BASIS. SIGNIFICANT DROUGHT RELIEF OCCURRED AS
A RESULT. SNOWPACK IN THE VERY HIGH TERRAIN HELD ON TO GOOD WATER
EQUIVALENT VALUES THROUGH MAY DUE TO CONTINUED COOLER THAN NORMAL
TEMPERATURES AND HEAVY PRECIPITATION.

FOR THE JANUARY THROUGH MAY 2015 YEAR SO FAR...AVERAGE STATEWIDE
PRECIPITATION IS AN IMPRESSIVE 161 PERCENT OF NORMAL...THE 9TH
WETTEST ON RECORD THROUGH THE FIRST FIVE MONTHS OF THE YEAR.

THE 2015 WATER YEAR IS PAST THE HALFWAY POINT. THE OCTOBER 2014
THROUGH MAY 2015 AVERAGE STATEWIDE PRECIPITATION ROSE TO 129
PERCENT OF NORMAL...THE 22ND WETTEST WATER YEAR ON RECORD.
