SYNOPSIS...

2015 STARTED OUT VERY WELL WITH THE AVERAGE STATEWIDE PRECIPITATION
180 PERCENT OF NORMAL. UNFORTUNATELY...THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION
DID NOT FALL ON THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS WHERE WE NEED IT THE MOST
FOR HEALTHY SNOWPACK. RATHER...THE EASTERN PLAINS GRABBED THE MOST
SIGNIFICANT PRECIPITATION AT 300 TO 400 PERCENT OF NORMAL.

THE AVERAGE STATEWIDE PRECIPITATION FOR JANUARY 2015 WAS 1.10 INCHES
WHICH WAS 0.49 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. JANUARY WAS THE 13TH WETTEST
JANUARY ON RECORD.

THE 2015 WATER YEAR IS NOW WELL UNDERWAY. THE OCTOBER 2014 THROUGH
JANUARY 2015 AVERAGE STATEWIDE PRECIPITATION WAS 102 PERCENT OF
NORMAL...THE 51ST DRIEST ON RECORD.

PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE ENTIRE STATE. THE TEMPERATURE OUTLOOK
IS FOR EQUAL CHANCES OF ABOVE...NEAR NORMAL...OR BELOW TEMPERATURES
FOR MOST OF NEW MEXICO...EXCEPT A TENDENCY FOR BELOW NORMAL
TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE EXTREME SOUTHEAST.

RESERVOIR STORAGE REMAINS WELL BELOW NORMAL AT NEARLY ALL LAKES IN
NEW MEXICO...WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SEVERAL STORAGE LOCATIONS ALONG
THE PECOS RIVER BASIN. THE STATEWIDE AVERAGE IS JUST 23 PERCENT OF
CAPACITY AS OF FEBRUARY 1ST.
