Fire Weather Planning Forecast for North and Central New Mexico
National Weather Service Albuquerque NM
233 PM MST Tue Feb 21 2017

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 6 PM WEDNESDAY FOR THE
EASTERN PLAINS AND NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS BELOW SIGNIFICANT SNOWPACK
DUE TO STRONG WINDS...LOW HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE...

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 7 PM THURSDAY
FOR ALL OF THE EAST AND LOWER TO MIDDLE RIO GRANDE VALLEY DUE TO
STRONG WINDS...LOW HUMIDITY AND AN UNSTABLE ATMOSPHERE...

.DISCUSSION...
A classic strong downslope and break down of the upper ridge pattern
is taking shape during the next 72 hours. Wednesday will be the most
unstable with higher haines values...well above normal temperatures
and unusually high mixing heights. Wind speeds on Thursday will be
the strongest with very strong winds found along and east of the
central mountain chain. Friday will be the post cold frontal scenario
with gusty wind and low humidity alignment across the eastern plains
although temperatures will be below normal pretty much areawide.
Continued gustiness during the weekend with another possible strong
wind event scenario for early next week. Humidity values will be the
driest across the eastern plains during the next several days
although an unusually dry airmass will impact the entire forecast
area Thursday through Saturday. The highest humidity and some chances
for showers will be found across the north central mountains during
the next several days. Drier lightning is in the forecast for the
northwest half of the state Wednesday afternoon to early evening.
