...VERY HOT CONDITIONS TO PERSIST OVER PARTS OF EASTERN NM...

.A potent area of high pressure building over New Mexico with
exceptionally dry air will lead to very hot conditions through
Saturday. Temperatures at Roswell have been at or above
100 degrees for several days and the heat will peak Saturday with
highs near 110 degrees. Tucumcari will see triple digit heat again
this afternoon and will peak on Saturday around 107 degrees. Fort
Sumner, Clovis and Portales will also be well into the triple
digits on Saturday. The heat is expected to temporarily break on
Sunday as a cold front moves south through the area.

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM MDT SATURDAY...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM MDT Saturday.

* LOCATION...Quay and Chaves counties.

* TIMING...Today and Saturday during the afternoon and early
  evening.

* TEMPERATURES...104 to 110 today, increasing to 106 to 112
  Saturday.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Very hot temperatures with very low humidity
  will increase the risk for dehydration and heat related
  illnesses. Limit your exposure to the sun and shift timing of
  outdoor activities to the morning and late evening hours. Pets
  and livestock will also be impacted by these very hot
  temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
