...VERY HOT CONDITIONS TO PERSIST OVER PARTS OF EASTERN NM TODAY...

.A strong ridge of high pressure over New Mexico with
exceptionally dry air will lead to very hot conditions again
today. A string of days with triple-digit heat from around Roswell
to Tucumcari will persist through today with the hottest readings
yet. Roswell should reach around 110 degrees, with 108 at
Tucumcari, 105 at Clovis, and 104 degrees at Fort Sumner and
Portales. A gusty back door cold front will cross tonight into
Sunday, dropping high temperatures around 18 degrees Sunday
afternoon. However, readings will rebound over the coming work
week with oppressive heat likely to return during the middle to
latter half of the week.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM MDT
THIS EVENING...

* LOCATION...Chaves County Plains and Curry, Roosevelt and De
  Baca counties.

* TIMING...This afternoon and early evening.

* TEMPERATURES...102 to 115 degrees.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Very hot temperatures with very low humidity
  will increase the risk for dehydration and heat related
  illnesses. Limit your exposure to the sun and shift timing of
  outdoor activities to the morning and late evening hours. Pets
  and livestock will also be impacted by these very hot
  temperatures.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
