...HIGH WINDS LATER SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL
AND EAST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO...

.A potent upper level disturbance and a strong surface cold front
will bring high and potentially damaging winds to parts of south
central and east central New Mexico later Saturday night through
the day Sunday.

...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY LATE EVENING THROUGH
SUNDAY AFTERNOON...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Watch, which is in effect from late Saturday evening through
Sunday afternoon.

* LOCATION...This includes the Central and South Central
  Highlands, South Central Mountains and Eastern Lincoln and
  Southwest Chaves Counties.

* WINDS...Southwest increasing to 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 60
  mph by midnight Saturday night, then will increase to 40 to 50
  mph with gusts to 70 mph out of the west on Sunday. Damaging
  wind gusts to 75 mph will be possible on the highest peaks of
  the Capitan Mountains.

* TIMING...Winds will increase Saturday and continue to increase
  Saturday night into Sunday, before diminishing late Sunday
  afternoon and evening.

* VISIBILITY...Locally reduced to 3 to 5 miles in blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Take action to secure trash cans, lawn
  furniture, and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects. High
  winds can topple trees, blow weakened roofs off houses, and down
  power lines. Travel on roads will be hazardous, especially on
  north to south facing roads, including U.S. Highway 54.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remember, A High Wind Watch means conditions are favorable for a
potentially damaging high wind event in and close to the watch
area. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph
or more can lead to property damage. Monitor the latest forecasts
at weather.gov/abq, listen to NOAA weather radio or your favorite
media outlet.

Wind Watch, which is in effect from Sunday morning through Sunday
afternoon.

* LOCATION...All of east central New Mexico as well as the Chaves
  County Plains.

* WINDS...West winds will increase to 35 to 45 mph with gusts to
  60 mph Sunday morning and continue through much of the
  afternoon.

* TIMING...Winds will increase sharply Sunday morning, peak during
  the midday through much of the afternoon before diminishing
  late in the afternoon and evening.

* VISIBILITY...Reduced to 3-5 miles or less in blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Take action to secure trash cans, lawn
  furniture, and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects. High
  winds can topple trees, blow weakened roofs off houses, and down
  power lines. Travel will be hazardous, especially on north to
  south facing highways, including portions of U.S. Highways 285,
  84 and 70.
