...COLDER WITH SNOW POSSIBLE OVER MUCH OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL
NEW MEXICO THIS WEEKEND INTO MONDAY...

AFTER A STRETCH OF SPRING LIKE WEATHER WITH TEMPERATURES WELL ABOVE
NORMAL...AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM AND SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL
BRING POTENTIAL FOR COLDER AND WETTER WEATHER TO MUCH OF NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL NEW MEXICO THIS WEEKEND INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK.

THE CHANGE IN THE WEATHER WILL BEGIN TONIGHT AS A BROAD AREA OF UPPER
LEVEL LOW PRESSURE DEEPENS OVER THE CENTRAL ROCKIES AND SHOVES A
STRONG COLD FRONT SOUTHWARD INTO NEW MEXICO. COLD AIR WILL CONTINUE
TO POUR INTO THE STATE THROUGH THE WEEKEND DROPPING HIGH TEMPERATURES
10 TO 20 DEGREES BY SUNDAY FROM TODAYS READINGS ACROSS CENTRAL AND
WESTERN AREAS...AND A STARTLING 35 TO 50 DEGREES ACROSS THE EASTERN
PLAINS. HIGH TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE NORTHEAST PLAINS WILL
STRUGGLE TO REACH THE 20S ON SUNDAY...AND TEMPERATURES COULD LIKELY
REMAIN NEAR TO BELOW FREEZING THERE UNTIL TUESDAY.

LIGHT SNOWFALL COULD BEGIN AS SOON AS TONIGHT BUT IS MORE LIKELY
SATURDAY FROM THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS OVER THE NORTHEAST
PLAINS...WHERE SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE POSSIBLE BY LATE
SUNDAY NIGHT. SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL COULD ALSO OCCUR OVER THE SAN JUAN
MOUNTAINS. LESSER AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE EAST CENTRAL
AND SOUTHEAST PLAINS...AS WELL AS THE REMAINDER OF THE CENTRAL
MOUNTAIN CHAIN AND ADJACENT HIGHLANDS...AND ALONG AND NEAR THE
CONTINENTAL DIVIDE.

PERSONS PLANNING TRAVEL OR OUTDOOR PLANS OVER NORTHERN AND
CENTRAL NEW MEXICO SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY SHOULD MONITOR
WEATHER.GOV/ABQ...NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR THEIR FAVORITE MEDIA OUTLET
FOR UPDATED FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS ON THIS POTENTIAL WINTER
STORM.
