HYDROLOGIC STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JUNEAU AK
617 AM AKDT MON APR 7 2014

...HEAVY RAIN FOR SOUTHEAST ALASKA THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT...

A STRONG FRONT IN THE EASTERN GULF IS TAPPING INTO A LOW LATITUDE
MOISTURE SOURCE AND WILL PRODUCE HEAVY RAIN OVER MUCH OF SOUTHEAST
ALASKA THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT. IN ADDITION TO THE RAIN, WARM LOW
LEVEL AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THE FRONT WILL DRIVE SNOW LEVELS UP AS
HIGH AS 6000 FEET OVER SOUTHERN LOCATIONS AND UP TO 2000 FEET OVER
NORTHERN LOCATIONS CAUSING SIGNIFICANT SNOW MELT.

WATER LEVELS IN PANHANDLE CREEKS AND STREAMS HAVE BEEN RUNNING
LOWER THAN NORMAL PRIOR TO TODAYS RAIN. WHILE HEAVY RAINFALL
COMPOUNDED BY EXPECTED SNOW MELT WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT RISES IN
PANHANDLE CREEKS AND STREAMS THEY ARE NOT CURRENTLY EXPECTED TO
EXCEED BANKFULL.

FORECAST 24 HOUR RAIN TOTALS RANGE FROM 2.5 INCHES TO AS MUCH AS 4
INCHES FOR SOUTHERN LOCATIONS WITH HIGHEST AMOUNTS OVER MISTY
FJORDS. EXPECT 1.5 INCHES TO 2.25 INCHES OVER CENTRAL LOCATIONS
WITH 1.25 TO 1.5 INCHES OVER NORTHERN LOCATIONS.

THIS EVOLVING WEATHER SITUATION WILL BE MONITORED CLOSELY
THROUGHOUT THE DAY AND THIS STATEMENT WILL BE UPDATED BY 6 PM AKDT
MONDAY OR SOONER IF CONDITIONS WARRANT.
