**MARIA WEAKENS SLIGHTLY AS IT CONTINUES NORTHWARD**

* CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - None

* CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS:
    - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Eastern Currituck and
      Western Currituck

* STORM INFORMATION:
    - About 390 miles south-southeast of Ocean City MD or about 330
      miles south-southeast of Norfolk VA
    - 32.9N 73.1W
    - Storm Intensity 75 mph
    - Movement North or 360 degrees at 7 mph

SITUATION OVERVIEW
------------------

HURRICANE MARIA WILL MOVE NORTHWARD WELL OFF THE CAROLINA COAST
TODAY BEFORE MEANDERING OFF THE NORTH CAROLINA OUTER BANKS TONIGHT
AND WEDNESDAY.

WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS POSSIBLE ACROSS COASTAL NORTHEAST NORTH
CAROLINA TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. THESE CONDITIONS WILL
CAUSE HIGH SURF...WHILE ALSO ALLOWING FOR SOME BEACH EROSION AS WELL
AS DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IMPACT WILL BE COASTAL FLOODING AT TIMES OF HIGH
TIDE...WITH MINOR TO MODERATE COASTAL FLOODING LIKELY.

POTENTIAL IMPACTS
-----------------

* WIND:
Protect against hazardous wind having possible limited impacts across
EASTERN VIRGINIA...NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA...AND THE
LOWER MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE. Potential impacts include:
    - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored
      mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about.
    - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or
      uprooted, especially if soils are saturated. Some roadway signs
      will sustain damage.
    - A few roads will be impassable from debris. Hazardous driving
      conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways.
    - Scattered power and communications outages.

* SURGE:
Minor to locally moderate surge impacts are anticipated at this time
across northeast North Carolina.

* OTHER COASTAL HAZARDS:
High surf will bring a high threat of life threatening rip currents,
dangerous shore break and beach erosion across northeast North Carolina
beaches. It is recommended that you stay out of the surf zone.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

* OTHER PREPAREDNESS INFORMATION:

* Now is the time to bring to completion all preparations to protect
life and property.

Complete outside preparations before wind and rain arrive. Any
remaining evacuations and relocations should be completed before the
onset of strong gusty wind.

Heed the advice of local officials and comply with any evacuation
orders that are issued. Remember, during the storm, 9 1 1 Emergency
Services may be unavailable if conditions are unsafe. Plan
accordingly.

Check-in with your emergency points of contact among family, friends,
and co-workers. Inform them of your status and well-being. Let them
know how you intend to ride out the storm and when you plan to
check-in again.

Keep cell phones well charged and handy. Also, cell phone chargers
for automobiles can be helpful after the storm. Locate your chargers
and keep them with your cell phone.

If you are a visitor, pay attention to instructions from local
authorities.

Closely monitor NOAA Weather radio or other local news outlets for
official storm information. Be ready to adapt to changes in the
forecast.
