NOTE...NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE STILL OCCURRING ON PARTS OF
CAPE COD AND NANTUCKET AT THIS TIME. IF ANYTHING NEEDS ADJUSTING IN
THIS REPORT IT WILL BE ISSUED FRIDAY MORNING.

A BLIZZARD OCCURRED ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN NEW ENGLAND FROM THE LATE
MORNING THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON ON FEBRUARY 9TH 2017.

THE DEFINITION OF A BLIZZARD IS THAT FALLING AND/OR BLOWING SNOW
REDUCES VISIBILITY TO BELOW 1/4 MILE ALONG WITH SUSTAINED WINDS OR
WINDS THAT FREQUENTLY GUST TO 35 MPH OR MORE...AND THAT THESE ARE
THE PREDOMINANT REPORTED CONDITIONS FOR 3 CONSECUTIVE HOURS.

WHEN REVIEWING WHETHER A PARTICULAR OBSERVATION LOCATION HAD
BLIZZARD CONDITIONS...WE COUNTED VISIBILITIES EQUAL TO 1/4 MILE
SINCE THAT IS QUITE LOW FOR AN AUTOMATED VISIBILITY SENSOR TO DETECT.

AT PROVIDENCE RI...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 5 HOURS AND
18 MINUTES...FROM 1051 AM TO 409 PM.

AT HYANNIS MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 5 HOURS AND
4 MINUTES...FROM 1256 PM TO 600 PM.

AT BOSTON MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 4 HOURS AND
34 MINUTES...FROM 1220 PM TO 454 PM.

AT MARTHAS VINEYARD MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 4 HOURS
AND 32 MINUTES...FROM 1221 PM TO 453 PM.

AT BLOCK ISLAND RI...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 4 HOURS AND
12 MINUTES...FROM 1149 AM TO 401 PM.

AT BEVERLY MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
57 MINUTES...FROM 1212 PM TO 409 PM.

AT MARSHFIELD MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
40 MINUTES...FROM 1215 PM TO 355 PM.

AT NEW BEDFORD MA...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
38 MINUTES...FROM 1132 AM TO 310 PM.

AT WESTERLY RI...BLIZZARD CRITERIA WERE MET FOR 3 HOURS AND
35 MINUTES...FROM 1153 AM TO 328 PM.

WE HAVE DETERMINED THAT BLIZZARD ALSO OCCURRED AT CHATHAM MA...
PROVINCETOWN MA...AND NORTH SMITHFIELD RI.

AT CHATHAM MA...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS BEGAN AT 107 PM AND CONTINUED
THROUGH AT LEAST 336 PM WHEN COMMUNICATIONS ISSUES OCCURRED. HOWEVER
THREE HOURS LATER VISIBILITIES WERE STILL 1/4 MILE AND WINDS WERE
STILL STRONG.

AT PROVINCETOWN MA...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE CONFIRMED FROM 1256 PM
THROUGH AT LEAST 356 PM BUT WINDS WENT MISSING AFTER 450 PM.

AT NORTH SMITHFIELD RI...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WERE REPORTED FROM 1056
AM TO 108 PM BUT WINDS WENT MISSING AT THAT TIME. VISIBILITY
CRITERIA WERE MET THROUGH 356 PM.

NEAR-BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OCCURRED AT LAWRENCE MA...WHICH MET
CRITERIA FOR 2 HOURS AND 39 MINUTES... AND AT NORWOOD MA... WHICH
MET CRITERIA FOR 2 HOURS AND 23 MINUTES.
