PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
1146 PM EDT THU JUL 3 2014

...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT...NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT
TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY AND REDUCE PERSONAL RISK...

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT...MEANING THAT TROPICAL
STORM CONDITIONS...INCLUDING SUSTAINED WINDS OF 39 TO 73 MPH /34
TO 64 KNOTS/...WILL AFFECT NANTUCKET AND CAPE COD. THIS
STATEMENT WILL MENTION SOME OF THE THINGS YOU SHOULD CONSIDER AT
THIS TIME.

CONSIDER THE NEED TO EVACUATE. YOU MAY WANT TO MOVE FROM AN AREA
WHICH COULD FLOOD FROM EITHER HEAVY RAINFALL OR COASTAL FLOODING...
TO A STRUCTURE WHICH CAN WITHSTAND THE EXPECTED WINDS. ALWAYS
BUILD EXTRA TIME INTO YOUR PREPARATION PLANS. NEW ENGLAND TROPICAL
STORMS OFTEN ACCELERATE UP THE COAST...DRASTICALLY REDUCING YOUR
TIME TO TAKE ACTION.

ALL OUTSIDE PREPARATIONS AND TRAVEL SHOULD BE COMPLETED BEFORE
THE ARRIVAL OF TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS /39 MPH OR HIGHER/.

IF YOU DECIDE TO EVACUATE...

 - FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF LOCAL OFFICIALS. THIS WILL ASSIST
EVERYONE IN MAKING ANY EVACUATIONS AS BRIEF AND TIMELY AS
   POSSIBLE.
 - DO NOT TRAVEL FARTHER THAN NECESSARY.
 - AVOID TRAVELING AT NIGHT IF POSSIBLE.
 - START OUT WITH A FULL TANK OF GASOLINE.

PREPARING TO STAY IN YOUR HOME...

 - MOVE VALUABLE ITEMS TO HIGHER POINTS WITHIN YOUR HOME.
 - TURN OFF ALL GAS...WATER AND ELECTRICAL SERVICES.
 - LOCK ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS AND WEDGE SLIDING GLASS DOORS TO
PREVENT THEM FROM LIFTING OUT OF THEIR TRACKS.
 - MOVE ALL LOOSE ITEMS OUTDOORS...INCLUDING TRASH CANS...
   FURNITURE AND PLANTS...INDOORS.
 - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH FOOD...WATER AND ANY MEDICINES TO
SUPPLY EACH FAMILY MEMBER FOR AT LEAST 3 DAYS.

IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE YOUR HOME...

 - MAKE SURE THAT ALL FAMILY MEMBERS NOT AT HOME KNOW WHERE YOU
   WILL BE STAYING.
 - UNPLUG ALL ELECTRICAL ITEMS.
 - TAKE ALONG BLANKETS...SLEEPING BAGS...PILLOWS AND TOWELS IN
   CASE YOU MAY NEED THEM.
 - TAKE ALONG ANY NECESSARY MEDICATIONS AND PERSONAL HYGIENE
   ITEMS...INCLUDING SOAP...A TOOTHBRUSH AND TOOTHPASTE.
 - BRING ALONG YOUR IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS...SUCH AS INSURANCE
   DOCUMENTS...INVENTORY LISTS AND MEDICAL INFORMATION.
 - DETERMINE IF WHERE YOU ARE STAYING CAN ACCEPT PETS. FOLLOW
THEIR ADVICE IF TAKING PETS WITH YOU. SOME LOCATIONS THAT DO
ACCEPT PETS REQUIRE YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN CRATE OR CARRIER.

BOAT OWNER AND MARINA OPERATORS...

 - IF YOU CANNOT REMOVE YOUR BOAT FROM THE WATER...TAKE CARE TO
SECURE IT PROPERLY. BE SURE TO HAVE PLENTY OF EXTRA LINES...
CHAFFING GEAR AND FENDERS. FULLY CHARGE THE BATTERY.
 - ENSURE YOUR VESSEL IS AS WATER TIGHT AS POSSIBLE.
 - REMOVE ALL NON-PERMANENT EQUIPMENT.
 - WHEN YOU ARE THROUGH SECURING YOUR OWN VESSEL...HELP YOUR
NEIGHBORS. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE IMPROPERLY SECURED BOAT TO
DAMAGE MANY IN A MARINA...BAY OR HARBOR.

OFFSHORE BOATING INTERESTS...

 - IF YOU ARE ALREADY OUT ON THE WATER...NOW IS THE TIME TO HEAD
   BACK TO A SAFE PORT.
 - HIGH SEAS AND LARGE OCEAN SWELLS WILL MOVE INTO THE OFFSHORE
WATERS WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE WIND FIELD ASSOCIATED WITH THE
HURRICANE. DO NOT BE FOOLED. SWELLS OF 10 TO 20 FEET WILL TEST
   EVEN THE MOST SEASONED SAILOR.

FOLLOWING THESE ACTIONS WILL MAKE THIS STRESSFUL AND DIFFICULT
TIME GO A BIT MORE SMOOTHLY.
