...A WARM AND STORMY JUNE...

JUNE STARTED OFF THE SUMMER SEASON COMFORTABLE WITH ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES WHICH CONTINUED THE PATTERN FROM MAY. THERE WERE
PERIODIC BOUTS OF STORMINESS OF WHICH MOST OCCURRED MIDWEEK.
WEEKENDS WERE MAINLY DRY AND COMFORTABLE.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 68.8 DEGREES FINISHED TWO AND A HALF
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THIS PLACED JUNE TIED FOR 11TH WARMEST
ALLTIME. ABOVE NORMAL DAYS OUTWEIGHED BELOW NORMAL DAYS 2 TO 1...AND
THERE WERE NO RECORDS THIS MONTH. THERE WERE 14 DAYS THAT REACHED
80F OR GREATER...WHICH IS 6 MORE THAN NORMAL...AND THE MOST SINCE
2007.

PRECIPITATION FOR JUNE WAS 3.80 INCHES WHICH IS ABOUT A TENTH OF AN
INCH ABOVE NORMAL. THERE WERE THREE DAYS WITH OVER A HALF INCH OF
RAINFALL AND ALL OCCURRED IN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF THE MONTH. THE
GREATEST DAILY RAINFALL OCCURRED ON THE 3RD WHEN 1.09 INCHES OF RAIN
FELL. THERE WERE NO RECORDS SET THIS MONTH. THERE WERE 8 DAYS OF
THUNDERSTORMS THIS MONTH.

THE INCREASED WARMTH AND HUMIDITY IN THE MONTH OF JUNE BROUGHT A
NATURAL INCREASE IN THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. A MUGGY AIRMASS
ON THE 3RD ALLOWED FOR EARLY MORNING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO
CROSS WESTERN NEW YORK. A COLD FRONT CROSSED LATER THAT DAY BRINGING
A BRIEF PERIOD OF COOLER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES WITH FULL SUNSHINE
TO START THE FIRST WEEKEND OF THE MONTH. STORMINESS RETURNED AGAIN
TO THE REGION ON THE 12TH AND 13TH WITH A FEW HEAVY STORMS WASHING
OUT A ROAD ACROSS FAR EASTERN ERIE COUNTY AND WYOMING COUNTY. AGAIN
A COLD FRONT CROSSED THE REGION ON FRIDAY THE 13TH ALLOWING FOR
ANOTHER DRY AND COMFORTABLE WEEKEND. IT WAS A LITTLE COOL ON
SATURDAY THE 14TH IN WHICH THE 62 DEGREE READING WAS THE COOLEST DAY
THIS MONTH BUT BY SUNDAY MORE COMFORTABLE TEMPERATURES RETURNED. ON
THE 17TH SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS BROUGHT WIDESPREAD DAMAGE ACROSS AREAS
JUST TO THE NORTH OF BUFFALO ACROSS NIAGARA AND ORLEANS COUNTIES. A
THIRD NICE WEEKEND FOR WESTERN NEW YORK OCCURRED ON THE 21ST AND
22ND AND FEATURED COMFORTABLE TEMPERATURES AND A FULL DAY OF
SUNSHINE ON SUNDAY. ON TUESDAY THE 24TH AGAIN THUNDERSTORMS RETURNED
TO WESTERN NEW YORK. THE MONTH FINISHED VERY WARM WITH THE LAST FOUR
DAYS OF THE MONTH REACHING THE MID 80S. THERE HAVE BEEN NO 90 DEGREE
READINGS YET THIS YEAR...WHICH IS NOT UNUSUAL AS WE TYPICALLY HAVE
ONE OR TWO YEARS EVERY DECADE WITHOUT A 90F READING HERE IN
BUFFALO.

SUNSHINE AVERAGED 67 PERCENT WHICH IS 3 PERCENTAGE POINTS ABOVE
NORMAL. THERE WERE 18 MOSTLY SUNNY DAYS THIS MONTH...WITH MANY
OCCURRING ON WEEKENDS. WINDS AVERAGED WELL BELOW NORMAL THIS
MONTH...FINISHING ABOUT TWO AND A HALF MPH BELOW NORMAL. THE
STRONGEST WIND GUST WAS JUST 37 MPH THIS MONTH. LAKE ERIE WARMED
FROM 57 DEGREES TO 71 DEGREES BY MONTHS END. THIS 71 DEGREE READING
IS 4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.

IN ALL PLEASANT WEEKENDS THIS MONTH MADE UP FOR MID WEEK STORMINESS
TO MAKE JUNE A NICE SUMMER MONTH.
