...SMOKE AFFECTING PARTS OF THE CHARLESTON METRO AREA AS WELL AS
THE WANDO AND COOPER RIVERS...

SURFACE OBSERVATIONS AND WEBCAMS FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION INDICATE AREAS OF SMOKE ARE IMPACTING
AREAS AROUND DOWNTOWN CHARLESTON...WEST ASHLEY...DANIEL ISLAND AND
MOUNT PLEASANT LATE THIS AFTERNOON. VISIBILITIES WERE DOWN AS LOW
AS 2 TO 3 MILES AT TIMES. THE SMOKE IS LIKELY BEING GENERATED BY A
PRESCRIBED BURN NEAR THE NAVAL WEAPONS STATION. THOSE WITH
RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES ARE URGED TO REMAIN INDOORS UNTIL CONDITIONS
IMPROVE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

ACTIVE CHILDREN AND ADULTS AS WELL AS THOSE WITH RESPIRATORY
AILMENTS THAT CAN BE TRIGGERED BY SMOKE SHOULD SEVERELY LIMIT
OUTDOOR ACTIVITY AND STAY INDOORS. EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD LIMIT
PROLONGED OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. MOTORISTS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR
SUDDEN CHANGES IN VISIBILITIES. USE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WHENEVER
DENSE SMOKE IS ENCOUNTERED.
