...DROUGHT WORSENS HEADING INTO THE GROWING SEASON...

.SYNOPSIS...

THE FIRST THREE MONTHS OF THE YEAR HAVE BEEN VERY DRY FOR EASTERN
KANSAS AND WESTERN AND NORTHWESTERN MISSOURI. MOST OF THIS AREA HAS
SEEN BETWEEN 25 AND 35 PERCENT OF NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE YEAR.
IN CONTRAST... PARTS OF NORTHERN AND NORTHEASTERN MISSOURI HAVE SEEN
VERY CLOSE TO NORMAL AMOUNTS OF PRECIPITATION FOR THE YEAR. THE
RESULT OF THIS IS THAT MODERATE DROUGHT (D1) HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM
NORTHEASTERN MISSOURI... BUT EXPANDED INTO FAR NORTHWESTERN MISSOURI
AND PARTS OF EAST CENTRAL KANSAS AND WESTERN AND CENTRAL MISSOURI.

SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO FIRE POTENTIAL.

THE KBDI IS BROKEN INTO 4 CATEGORIES WHICH INDICATE THE
SUSCEPTIBILITY OF GROUND FUELS TO FIRE DANGER. BELOW ARE THE 4
CATEGORIES AND A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EACH.

KDBI   0 TO 200 - LOW.......WET WITH LITTLE DANGER OF FIRE INITIATION
KDBI 201 TO 400 - MODERATE..DRYING OCCURRING WITH SOME FIRE DANGER
KDBI 401 TO 600 - HIGH......GROUND COVER DRY AND WILL BURN READILY
KDBI 601 TO 800 - EXTREME...DEAD AND LIVE FUELS WILL BURN READILY
