249 FXUS62 KFFC 291735 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 135 PM EDT Mon Apr 29 2024 ...New 18Z Aviation Discussion... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday) Issued at 416 AM EDT Mon Apr 29 2024 Expecting another dry day today with highs in the low 80s for much of the area before the sfc high pressure retreats to the east and a mid level trough moves into the southeast overnight into Tuesday. The associated energy with this shortwave brings showers into north GA as early as 2-4am Tuesday before pushing further into north and central GA. Currently with the timing, the energy remains cut off from much of the instability so not expecting anything other than isolated thunderstorms overnight. As the showers move into central GA and line up with the better instability, this may be where we see more thunderstorms activity. Not expecting anything severe, but could see isolated to scattered strong thunderstorms if the moisture sticks together through the afternoon. SPC currently has us under a general thunder risk which goes along with current thinking. Hernandez && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 416 AM EDT Mon Apr 29 2024 At a glance: - The second half of this week will be hot. - Chance for thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon across northern Georgia. Well, it`s summer. The ridge will settle in over the Atlantic Georgia will begin to bake until likely the end of the season. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 80s on Wednesday afternoon and will stay there through the rest of the long term. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 60s so the AC will probably need to work overtime. A short wave will bring the chance of thunderstorms north of I-20 on Friday night and into Saturday. This may help moderate temps in northern Georgia to the mid 50s. While that wave is expected to clear the area by Sunday, winds will shift to the SSW by the end of the weekend providing the CWA with enough moisture to kick off pulse convective season. As a result, most of the CWA has at least a slight chance for PoPs in the early afternoon beginning Sunday. Vaughn && .AVIATION...
