Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX
339 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Friday Night)
Issued at 339 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024

Clear/dry and warming weather will continue through the short-term
as a weak/flat ridge aloft settles over the region and the onshore
flow strengthens in response to lowering surface pressure over the
Southern Plains. Low-level moisture will be slowly returning to SE
TX with this pattern. Lows tonight will be in the lower to mid 50s
for most locations...lower 60s at the coast. Highs tomorrow should
be in the mid to upper 70s...lower 70s on the beaches. And for to-
morrow night, lows will be slightly warmer, in the upper 50s north
to around 60s elsewhere. 41

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through next Wednesday)
Issued at 339 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024

With surface high pressure off to our east and lower pressures off to
our north and northwest, we are still looking at increasing clouds
and warmer temperatures over the weekend and into the start of next
week under persistent south to southeast winds (it will be breezy at
times). The warming trend will be reflected well in our afternoon highs,
with readings around 80 on Saturday, low to mid 80s on Sunday and mid
to upper 80s on Monday (it is possible extra or more expansive/extensive
cloud cover could shave a degree or two off of these highs). Low temperatures
will be in the low to mid 60s on Sunday morning and in a mid 60s to
lower 70s range on Monday morning. Our next cold front is still on schedule
for Tuesday, and with latest forecast we have the boundary entering
our northern counties shortly before or around sunrise and then moving
off the coast in the morning through early afternoon hours (earlier
in the Matagorda Bay area and later in the Galveston Bay area). It will
initially become breezy behind the front (especially Tuesday afternoon
through Wednesday morning/afternoon) with winds weakening and gradually
shifting back to the northeast to east to southeast Wednesday night through
Thursday night as high pressure over the area moves off to the east. The
front will cool the area back down with the Tuesday night-Thursday night
period seeing lows mainly in the 50s and highs in the 70s.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAF Issuance)
Issued at 1221 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024

VFR forecast will continue. Very light/variable winds early this aft-
ernoon will be transitioning to a light SE flow through the remainder
of the afternoon (5-9kts) into the overnight hours. Falling pressures
over the Southern Plains will help to strengthen S/SE winds tomorrow.

.MARINE...
Issued at 339 PM CDT Thu Mar 28 2024

As high pressure moves off to the east, onshore winds have begun to
return to the area. These south to southeast winds will be strengthening
over the next several days under a tightening pressure gradient (caution
flags might be needed). Seas are expected to increase over the weekend
as well. These mainly moderate onshore winds and elevated seas can be
expected to persist until the next cold front moves through the area
on Tuesday. Offshore winds will develop and strengthen behind the front,
and at this time it looks like the strongest winds and highest seas
will be focusing on the Tuesday night through Wednesday morning or
afternoon time period.
