...WILMINGTON OHIO /KILN/ WSR-88D DOPPLER RADAR UNDERGOING
EXTENDED MAINTENANCE...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WILMINGTON OHIO /KILN/ WSR-88D
DOPPLER RADAR IS UNDERGOING EXTENDED MAINTENANCE TO REPLACE A KEY
CENTRAL COMPONENT. ONCE THIS MAINTENANCE IS COMPLETE...THE RADAR
WILL UNDERGO TESTING AND CALIBRATION OVER SEVERAL DAYS TO ENSURE
QUALITY DATA.

THE OUTAGE IS EXPECTED FROM TODAY THROUGH THE DAY ON
FRIDAY...AUGUST 1ST. USERS MAY SEE RADAR DATA BEFORE THEN
/ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT/ AS CALIBRATION AND TESTING BEGINS...BUT
TECHNICIANS INDICATE THIS DATA SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON AND WILL
BE SUBJECT TO OUTAGES OR INACCURACIES.

NWS METEOROLOGISTS WILL USE SURROUNDING WSR-88D RADARS AS WELL
AS FAA TERMINAL DOPPLER WEATHER RADARS /TDWR/ NEAR
CINCINNATI...COLUMBUS...AND DAYTON FOR HAZARDOUS WEATHER DETECTION
DURING THIS OUTAGE.

A PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT WILL BE SENT WHEN THE RADAR RETURNS
TO FULL OPERATING CAPACITY AT THE END OF THE WEEK.
