.RIVER AND RESERVOIR CONDITIONS...

RIVER FLOWS IN THE NORTH PLATTE RIVER BASIN...ABOVE AND BELOW LAKE
MCCONAUGHY HAVE BEEN RUNNING SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE PAST
MONTH. FLOWS INTO LAKE MCCONAUGHY HAVE BEEN NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL FOR
THIS TIME OF YEAR. FLOWS BELOW LAKE MCCONAUGHY ALONG THE NORTH
PLATTE RIVER HAVE BEEN ELEVATED OVER THE PAST MONTH. THIS IS DUE TO
ROUTINE WATER RELEASES FOR IRRIGATION PURPOSES. FOR THE SOUTH PLATTE
RIVER...LEVELS HAVE FALLEN OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AS
SEASONAL SNOWMELT FROM THE CENTRAL ROCKIES ENDED. FLOW LEVELS ALONG
THE SOUTH PLATTE RIVER FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR REMAIN NEAR NORMAL. AS
OF AUGUST 18...THE ELEVATION OF LAKE MCCONAUGHY WAS 3259.8 FEET.
THIS COMPARES TO 3260.7 FEET ONE YEAR AGO. AS OF AUGUST 18...LAKE
MCCONAUGHY WAS AT 91 PERCENT OF CAPACITY.

.FIRE DANGER IMPACTS...

AS OF THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST...ONE HOUR FUELS CONSISTING MAINLY OF
GRASSES WERE STILL GREEN EAST OF HIGHWAY 83 FROM VALENTINE TO NORTH
PLATTE. WEST OF THIS LINE...ACCORDING TO FEDERAL FIRE MANAGEMENT
OFFICIALS...FUELS WERE STILL UNCURED...HOWEVER...THEY ARE EXPECTED
TO BE CURED SHORTLY IF HOT CONDITIONS CONTINUED.

BOTTOM LINE...AN INCREASED RANGE FIRE THREAT COULD
DEVELOP...PARTICULARLY WEST OF HIGHWAY 83 IF HOT TEMPERATURES
DEVELOP AND RAINFALL BECOMES MORE ISOLATED IN COVERAGE...DURING THE
LATTER HALF OF AUGUST.
