DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTH PLATTE NE
1030 AM CDT THU SEP 04 2014

...RECENT RAINFALL RESULTS IN ELIMINATION OF DROUGHT CONDITIONS
ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA...

.SYNOPSIS...

OVER THE PAST 3 MONTHS THE AREA SAW AN ACTIVE AND VERY WET
JUNE...FOLLOWED BY A COOL AND DRY JULY...THEN RETURNING TO AN ACTIVE
AND MOIST AUGUST. WHILE JULY WAS VERY DRY...TEMPERATURES WERE ON THE
COOL SIDE...WHICH HELPED TO OFFSET THE DRYNESS. DURING THE MONTH OF
AUGUST...RETURNING TO AN ACTIVE PATTERN RESULTED IN WIDESPREAD ABOVE
NORMAL PRECIPITATION. THE ABOVE NORMAL PRECIPITATION OVER THE PAST
FEW MONTHS...ESPECIALLY DURING THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS HAS RESULTED
IN THE ELIMINATION OF DROUGHT CONDITIONS ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH
CENTRAL NEBRASKA.

.LOCAL AREAS AFFECTED...

AS OF SEPTEMBER 2...ACCORDING TO THE US DROUGHT MONITOR...NO DROUGHT
CONDITIONS WERE OCCURRING ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA.
A POCKET OF ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS WAS STILL OBSERVED OVER
PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA...INCLUDING EASTERN
KEITH...LINCOLN...HAYES...AND FRONTIER COUNTIES. SINCE WE HAVE BEEN
IN DROUGHT RECOVERY...THE ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS REFER TO LONG
TERM DEFICITS...MOST NOTICEABLY IN DEEP SOIL MOISTURE AND LOW
RESERVOIR LEVELS.
