Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Marquette MI
946 AM EDT Tue May 7 2024

For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior.

Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.SYNOPSIS...A 29.1 inch low rotates over the Northern Plains
today, extending 29.6 inch troughing over Lake Superior. This
sets up a strong pressure gradient over western Lake Superior this
morning as the 29.1 inch low pushes eastward against 30.0 inch
ridging over far northern Ontario. This gradient loosens into
Wednesday as the Northern Plains low weakens and a 29.5 inch low
ejecting out of the Plains moves east along the southern end of
the Great Lakes Basin. After a brief window of height rises late
in the day Wednesday, another 29.5 inch low moves from the Central
Plains to the Ohio River Valley early Thursday. Weak 30.0 inch
ridging briefly builds in Thursday night through early Friday
before another 29.7 inch low pressure trough drops through later
in the day. This will be followed by weak height rises Saturday as
a weak ridge briefly builds to 29.8 inches.
