FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR THE SOUTH PLAINS REGION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LUBBOCK TX
357 PM CDT WED MAR 25 2015

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

.DISCUSSION...
ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES THIS AFTERNOON HAVE RESULTED IN RELATIVE
HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPING BELOW 15 PERCENT...COUPLED WITH W-SW
WIND SPEEDS THAT HAVE RECENTLY INCREASED INTO THE 15-25 MPH RANGE
LATE THIS AFTERNOON...HAVE RESULTED IN PORTIONS OF THE ROLLING
PLAINS AND SOUTHERN SOUTH PLAINS TICKING OFF REDFLAG MINUTES
EQUATING LESS THAN AN HOUR THUS FAR. A REDFLAG WARNING IS IN
EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM THIS EVENING. THESE REDFLAG CONDITIONS WILL
PERSIST UNTIL THIS EVENING...WHEN A RATHER BREEZY COLD FRONT
IMPINGES ON THE AREA...RESULTING IN NORTH 20-FOOT WIND SPEEDS
INCREASING TO 25-35 MPH. A WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM
THIS EVENING TO 4 AM THURSDAY MORNING. HOWEVER...HUMIDITIES WILL
INCREASE INTO THE 65-85 PERCENT RANGE FOLLOWING THE COLD FRONTAL
PASSAGE WHICH WILL AID IN MITIGATING FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS.
FURTHERMORE...COULD SEE ISOLATED LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS
DEVELOP...ALONG WITH AREAS OF BLOWING DUST PARTICULARLY ON THE
CAPROCK WHICH COULD CAUSE VISIBILITY OBSTRUCTIONS. TEMPS TOMORROW
WILL FALL TO SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL DUE TO THE COLD AIR ADVECTION
USHERED IN BY THIS EVENING/S COLD FRONT...AND A NOTABLE DECLINE IN
20-FOOT NORTH WIND SPEEDS WILL OCCUR /BELOW 15 MPH/. WITH
HUMIDITIES REMAINING ABOVE 15 PERCENT...FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS WILL
BE LOW. TEMPERATURES WILL RETURN TO ABOVE NORMAL ON FRIDAY /70S/
SO PERHAPS A FEW LOCATIONS COULD FALL TO/NEAR 15 PERCENT
PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST SOUTH PLAINS. HOWEVER...20-FOOT
WEST TO SOUTHWEST WINDS SPEEDS AROUND 10 MPH WILL EASE FIRE
WEATHER CONCERNS.
