...FREEZING RAIN AND ICE STORM CONDITIONS POSSIBLE FRIDAY THROUGH
THE WEEKEND...

A cold front arriving Thursday night will set the stage for much
colder temperatures from Friday through the weekend. Increasing
moisture and steady lift in the atmosphere should result in periods
of light rain or freezing rain developing on Friday and continuing
through Saturday. This precipitation will likely expand in both
coverage and intensity from late Saturday through Sunday as an
upper level low pressure system approaches from the west.
However, cold air at the surface may warm considerably during this
time with the arrival of the storm system and abundant moisture.
This may result in freezing rain changing to all rain by Sunday,
with periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms even possible.

Depending on the duration of below freezing temperatures at the
surface, dangerous ice storm conditions could develop particularly
in the southern Texas Panhandle and adjacent areas of the South
Plains and Rolling Plains. Please monitor the latest forecasts as
changes to this icing threat will be refined in the coming days.
