151 FXUS64 KMRX 301859 AFDMRX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Morristown TN 259 PM EDT SAT JUL 30 2016 .SHORT TERM (Tonight and Sunday)...
-- Changed Discussion --
Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms that develop this afternoon will slowly diminish after sunset. However additional showers and thunderstorms will be possible through tonight, particularly across southwest VA and northern E TN, in response to a shortwave translating across eastern Kentucky embedded within the broad eastern U.S. trough. Patchy fog nearly forecast area-wide, perhaps a few locations and hours of dense conditions will develop again tonight. Thickest fog will be just before sunrise and break up a few hours after sunrise. Look for overnight temperatures to range from the mid 60s north to lower 70s south. Similar pattern persists into Sunday with mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms possible. Maximum temperatures will range from the mid 80s north to lower 90s south. .LONG TERM (Sunday night through Saturday)...The forecast period contains chance probabilities for a few showers and thunderstorms each day through the long term. The pattern offers hope for some needed rain as the models depict several disturbances riding southeast out of the Upper Midwest in a favorably moist and unstable atmospheric environment. Toward the end of the period a synoptic cool front approaches through the Ohio Valley perhaps keeping somewhat higher probabilities for convection going into next weekend. The unsettled nature of the forecast with a few more clouds around at times should limit any major heat wave action with high temperatures topping out just a few degrees above normal through the extended period.
