Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Missoula MT
240 PM MDT Tue May 14 2013
.DISCUSSION...A dry westerly flow will continue through much of
Wednesday for north central Idaho and Western Montana. Temperatures
will warm to 5 to 10 degrees above normal Wednesday afternoon.
A weather disturbance is expected to move across north central
Idaho and western Montana Wednesday night and Thursday. This
system may deliver enough moisture to support a return of a few showers.
A series of weather disturbances should shift across the region
Friday through the weekend. With a relatively light flow pattern
aloft, these weather disturbances should support showers for both
the mountains and valleys. There is still significant uncertainty
regarding timing of each disturbance. However, there should be
sufficient moisture to produce occasional showers through the
weekend. Temperatures are expected to cool to near normal or
slightly below normal for the weekend. Snow levels should remain
above mountain pass levels.
&&
.AVIATION...The main impact to flying around the Northern Rockies
into this evening will be wind gusts as strong as 25 kts at KMSO,
KGPI, KSMN, and KBTM terminals from through 15/0300Z. Otherwise,
high pressure promises dry conditions into Wednesday morning.
&&
.HYDROLOGY...Rivers across the Northern Rockies have peaked this
afternoon and should recede to below flood stage by midnight. The
exception is Middle Fork Flathead and main stem of the Flathead River
where levels may not recede to below flood stage until mid day
Wednesday. Otherwise, river stages will continue to slowly
decrease to below bank full stage by Wednesday afternoon. Though
the river levels will be decreasing, river flows will continue
relatively high through Friday.
