DANGEROUS STORM SURGE...HIGH WINDS...AND TORNADOES. THE EFFECTS OF THESE STORMS CAN BE DEVASTATING TO ENTIRE COMMUNITIES AND HAVE LONG LASTING IMPACTS. THE ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS JUNE 1. THE PEAK THREAT FOR THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES IS FROM THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF OCTOBER. HOWEVER...HURRICANES CAN OCCUR ANYTIME DURING THE HURRICANE SEASON. EACH YEAR AN AVERAGE OF 12 TROPICAL STORMS DEVELOP OVER THE ATLANTIC OCEAN...CARIBBEAN SEA AND GULF OF MEXICO. USUALLY 6 OF THESE STORMS BECOME HURRICANES...WITH 3 BEING MAJOR. NOAA RELEASES SEASONAL OUTLOOKS BEFORE EACH HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS. REMEMBER...SEASONAL OUTLOOKS CANNOT FORECAST WHERE A STORM WILL MAKE LANDFALL AND IT ONLY TAKES ONE STORM TO HIT YOUR COMMUNITY TO MAKE IT A BAD YEAR.
