Weather Summary for the local Tri-State Region
National Weather Service New York NY
426 PM EST Mon Jan 23 2017

...Strong coastal storm underway...conditions to get worse this
evening...

A strengthening area of low pressure developing along the Virginia
coast will continue to strengthen as it slowly moves up the coast
overnight. The result for the local region will be increasing
hazardous weather conditions.

Winds from the east and northeast will continue to rise. Gusts of
over 50-60 mph are expected, especially along the coastlines.
Rainfall will become steadier and heavier, and coastal sections will
likely see increasing tides. Rainfall rates will likely cause 2 to 3
inches of rain overnight. Urban and poor drainage flooding is likely.

The magnitude of the wind speeds overnight will likely cause tree
damage and other wind related issues. Falling trees on power lines
could cause power outages.

These stormy conditions are not expected to abate until well after
midnight. Then, there will be a slow improvement in the weather.
There are numerous hazards with this storm. It is highly encouraged
that you check with National Weather Service products and forecasts
during this storm.
