AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPOKANE WA
619 PM PDT Sun May 19 2013

.SYNOPSIS...
Evening showers will begin to wind down as the sun sets and a
ridge heads into the region. By Monday the ridge will become
firmly established over much of the region providing a dry and
warm day before a strong storm system enters the region on
Tuesday. Tuesday`s weather system will bring a good threat of showers
and thunderstorms followed by significantly cooler temperatures.
cool and showery weather will envelop the region from mid- week
into the holiday weekend.

.DISCUSSION...
Update: Increased POPs a bit through the late afternoon/early
evening hours. We will continue to see some scattered showers
popping up over the region until we lose our surface heating with
sunset tonight. The main area of focus for showers will be across
the northern mountains of eastern WA and in the northern ID
Panhandle. Skies will clear out tonight and winds will
remain weak. This will result in colder overnight low temperatures
in the mountain valleys compared to last night. I nudged low
temperatures down a little bit based off of the 18Z model
guidance. Expect lows in the valleys dipping down into the upper
30s to low 40s for these locations and a bit warmer across the
basin. The added moisture from showers this afternoon will keep
the boundary layer moist as we decouple tonight across the
northern mountain valleys. With dew point temperatures in the mid
40s for these valleys, I do expect some patchy fog to develop
overnight into early tomorrow morning. This may include locations
such as Colville, Chewelah, Metaline Falls, Priest Lake,
Sandpoint, Deer Park and along the Spokane River. /SVH

.AVIATION...
00Z TAFS: Scattered showers are expected through the rest of the
afternoon into the early evening hours east of a line from KOMK to
KMWH and primarily north of KPUW. A few isolated thunderstorms will
be possible across the Northeast Mountains and into the Northern
Panhandle through the late afternoon hours as well. Shortwave
ridging of high pressure pushing in from the west will result in
showers diminishing this evening with clearing skies into Monday.
This will result in VFR conditions continuing through 00Z Tuesday. /SVH
