Area Forecast Discussion

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Wednesday)
Issued at 225 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Initially weak forcing and a deep dry layer will limit precipitation
tonight. Anything that does make it to the ground will be light and
initially would be mainly a very light rain. Temperatures will be
cold with another freeze likely across much of the area.

Column will saturate sufficiently by late tonight into Wednesday
morning for precip to make it the ground. Some of this will fall in
the form of snow as dynamic cooling of the column occurs, mainly
across northwest into western OK. Some snow flurries not out of the
question as far southeast as the OKC metro. No real impacts are
anticipated.

A we go through the morning Wednesday, surface temps and low level
thermal fields will keep precip as rain. It will however be another
cool day with temperatures some 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through next Monday)
Issued at 225 PM CDT Tue Mar 26 2024

Another cold night expected Wed night as core of cold surface high
remains over the area. As we go into the latter part of the week,
south winds return in earnest, These will be quite gusty Thursday
and Friday, with much warmer weather. Temperatures warm quickly with
highs in the 60s and 70s Thu/Fri with 80s expected by the weekend.
This quick warm up and windy conditions will result in some elevated
fire weather concerns across the west as moisture return will
lag behind the quick warm up.

Finally as we go into the second half of the weekend and early next
week we see a return of gulf moisture along with a larger trough
approaching from the west. This will result in showers and
thunderstorms chances returning to the area.

western and northwestern Oklahoma tomorrow morning.
