River Ice Statement

...River Ice has begun moving on the Allegheny River...

At 940 am this morning, the river ice in the pool at Lock 9 Rimer
began moving downstream toward Lock 6 Clinton.

Updated reports reports of the ice movement at 115 pm this afternoon,
indicate that at Lock 6 Clinton the pool is fully covered by broken
 and running ice.

Downstream at the pool of Lock 5 Freeport, ice coverage is currently
50 percent of broken and running ice.

The furthest downstream the ice appears to have reached at this
time is the pool of Lock 4 Natrona where ice coverage is 30 percent
 of broken and running ice.

Some of this ice could be of significant size and thickness as the
ice was 24 to 36 inches thick where this ice originated in or near
 the lock 9 Rimer pool.

The United States Coast Guard in Pittsburgh will issue a broadcast
notice to mariners with the location of the ice as it works it`s way
downstream and into the Ohio River.
