River Ice Statement

...Allegheny River and Tributaries...

At Lock 2 Sharpsburg, ice coverage is 50 percent shore ice that is
5 inches thick.

The pool between Locks 3 and 4 is frozen solid from Springdale Power
Plant to Lock 4. Ice thickness is 5 to 6 inches. The channel from
Lock 4 to the Springdale Power Plant has the channel open with
running ice.

From Lock 5 Natrona, ice coverage is 100 percent of layered and
sheet ice on the ranging from 24 to 72 inches in thickness. Some ice
jams remain downstream from Franklin causing elevated levels along
portions of the Upper Allegheny River. Other ice jams are indicated
near Mosgrove and have disabled the river gage. Conditions appear to
be stable along the Upper Allegheny River at this time.

Ice lockages are being conducted at Locks 4 and 5. Only Lock 2 is
reporting no traffic limitations at this time.

...Kiskiminitas River and Tributaries...
Ice 24 inches thick at the mouth of the Kiskiminitas River below
Lock 5.

...Clarion River and Tributaries...

An ice jam is currently above the bridge near Cooksburg keeping
elevated levels above the bridge. Conditions appear stable at this
time, but this could change with reservoir releases.

...Monongahela River and Tributaries...

From Opekiska downstream to Elizabeth, ice coverage ranges from 80
to 100 percent coverage. Ice thickeness is 1 to 3 inches.

At Braddock, ice coverage is 10 percent with ice 2 inches thick.

Limitations are reported at Elizabeth and Braddock. Ice lockages are
being performed at Maxwell, Elizabeth and Braddock.

...Cheat River and Tributaries...

There are numerous ice jams near Parsons and Albright. There may
be  more ice jams that are unreported.

...Youghiogheny River and Tributaries...

Some ice jamming is occurring in and around Sutersville, but water
is flowing with no elevated stages occurring.

...Ohio River and Tributaries...

From Emsworth L/D downstream to Hannibal L/D, river ice coverage
ranged from 70 to 100 percent coverage. Ice thickness ranged from 1
to 3 inches. However, breaking ice  up to 6 inches thick is being
reported at Montgomery L/D. Montgomery is also reporting tows having
extreme difficulty at upper arrival point. Limitations reported from
at all locks downstream of Emsworth. Only Hannibal and New
Cumberland are not performing ice lockages.

...Tuscarawas River and Tributaries...

Some ice affecting river levels have occured near New Philadelphia,
however water continues to flow.

...Stillwater Creek and Tributaries...

...no reports...

...Muskingum River and Tributaries...

Recent pictures indicate that ice coverage on the Muskingum River is
nearly 100 percent. Some ice jams are in place but appear stable at
this time.
