...COMFORTABLE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER...

THE 5TH WARMEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD STARTED WITH THE FIRST ELEVEN
DAYS ON THE ABOVE NORMAL SIDE...UNTIL A THREE DAY STRETCH OF NORMAL
OR BELOW NORMAL TEMPERATURES. FROM THE 15TH THROUGH THE 30TH ALL BUT
THREE OF THESE SIXTEEN DAYS REACHED TEMPERATURES THAT WERE ABOVE
NORMAL DURING THIS STRETCH.  THE MONTH ENDED ON A COOL NOTE WITH THE
30TH REACHING ONLY INTO THE 50S FOR THE HIGH. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WERE
MOSTLY BELOW NORMAL THROUGH THE FIRST ELEVEN DAYS OF THE
MONTH...WITH THE EXCEPTION OF JUST OVER A HALF INCH OF RAINFALL ON
THE 9TH. THE ROCHESTER METRO AREA AND MANY OF THE SURROUNDING
SUBURBAN AREAS WERE INUNDATED BY ONE TO THREE INCHES OF RAINFALL
DURING THE WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 12TH AND 13TH. ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAIN
FELL ON THE 29TH AND 30TH.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR SEPTEMBER WAS 67.9F DEGREES WHICH IS 6.1
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL.  THE LONGEST STRETCH OF ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES WAS ELEVEN DAYS.  IN TOTAL THERE WERE 24 DAYS ABOVE
NORMAL AND 6 DAYS BELOW OR AT NORMAL TEMPERATURES.  THE WARMEST DAY
THIS MONTH WAS THE 8TH WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 92 DEGREES.
THERE WERE 13 DAYS THAT REACHED 80F OR GREATER...WHICH IS 6 MORE
THAN NORMAL.

PRECIPITATION FINISHED ABOVE NORMAL FOR THE MONTH WITH 4.07 INCHES
OF RAINFALL...WHICH IS 0.69 INCHES ABOVE NORMAL.  ALMOST HALF OF THE
RAINFALL AT THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT FOR THE MONTH FELL ON THE WEEKEND
OF THE 12TH AND 13TH...WHEN A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM STALLED OVER THE
AREA...RESULTING IN HEAVY RAINFALL OVER THE ROCHESTER METRO AREA.
THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT RECEIVED 1.89 INCHES OF RAIN FOR THE WEEKEND
OF SEPTEMBER 12TH AND 13TH.  SEPTEMBER HAD NINE DAYS OF MEASURABLE
RAINFALL...INCLUDING FIVE DAYS WITH GREATER THAN ONE QUARTER OF AN
INCH AND FOUR DAYS WITH GREATER THAN A HALF OF AN INCH.

SEPTEMBER STARTED OUT DRY FOR THE MOST PART...WITH THE FIRST EIGHT
DAYS OF THE MONTH ACCUMULATING JUST THREE HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF
RAINFALL. A COLD FRONT MOVED THROUGH WESTERN NEW YORK ON SEPTEMBER
9TH AND WITH IT FIFTY TWO HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF RAIN FELL. HEAVY
RAIN FELL ON THE WEEKEND OF SEPTEMBER 12TH AND 13TH...WITH
ACCUMULATIONS RANGING FROM ONE TO THREE INCHES ACROSS THE ROCHESTER
AREA...AS AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE STALLED OVER THE AREA DURING THE
WEEKEND.  THE NEXT TWO WEEKS WERE RELATIVELY DRY WITH TWENTY ONE
HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF RAINFALL THROUGH THE 27TH. SEVENTEEN
HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF RAIN ACCUMULATED AT THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT
ON SEPTEMBER 28TH AS A SOUTHERLY FLOW BROUGHT MOISTURE TO WESTERN
NEW YORK AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT.  A COLD FRONT SLOWLY
MOVED THROUGH THE AREA DURING THE LATE EVENING OF THE 29TH AND INTO
THE EARLY MORNING OF THE 30TH...RESULTING IN 1.24 INCHES OF RAINFALL
AT THE ROCHESTER AIRPORT.

WINDS WERE BELOW NORMAL THIS MONTH...AVERAGING 6.9 MPH WHICH IS 0.5
MPH BELOW NORMAL.  THE STRONGEST WIND GUST OF 33 MPH OCCURRED ON TWO
DAYS...THE 19TH AND AGAIN ON THE 30TH. LAKE ONTARIO STARTED OUT AT
68 DEGREES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH...PEAKING AT 74 DEGREES ON
THE 10TH...THEN DROPPED TO ITS COOLEST TEMPERATURE OF 44 DEGREES ON
THE 28TH AND 29TH...WHEN UPWELLING WAS STRONGEST

IN ALL A MOSTLY DRY MONTH...WITH ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES AND
RAINFALL.
