TO ALL WFOS SURROUNDING WFO MSO
FM WFO MSO

WFO MSO HAS ISSUED A HEADS-UP EMAIL TO OUR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
COMMUNITY AND OTHER PARTNERS.

EMAIL TOPIC...SNOW RETURNING TO THE MOUNTAIN PASSES

...REASONING IN EMAIL...
GREETINGS FROM NWS MISSOULA...

SNOW IS BACK IN THE FORECAST FOR THE
MOUNTAINS PASSES OVER THE WEEKEND. A DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
WILL DRAW COLDER CANADIAN AIR ACROSS THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND INTO
WESTERN MONTANA LATE TONIGHT AND SATURDAY. THE BULK OF PRECIPITATION
ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL BE OCCURRING ON SATURDAY, BUT
SOUTHWEST MONTANA WILL SEE SOME LINGERING EFFECT INTO SATURDAY
NIGHT.

GIVEN THE FACT WE ARE NOW EXPERIENCING WARMER AIR
TEMPERATURES RECENTLY, ROAD (SFC AND SUB-SFC) TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN
WARMING ALSO. WARMER ROAD CONDITIONS WILL CAUSE A FAIR AMOUNT
MELTING, ESPECIALLY DURING THE DAY SATURDAY, BUT THERE WILL BE
WINDOWS OF TIME IN WHICH SNOW AND ICE MAY ACCUMULATE ON ROADWAYS.
THE FOLLOWING IS OFFERED AS A GUIDE FOCUSING ON TIMING OF GRESTEST
IMPACTS AND SNOW AMOUNTS.

MARIAS PASS (AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO
NOONTIME SATURDAY)...3-4".
LOOKOUT PASS (SATURDAY)...1-2"
LOLO PASS
(SATURDAY EVENING)...2"
HOMESTAKE AND MACDONALD PASSES (SATURDAY
AFTERNOON/NIGHT)...2"
