...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
MONDAY AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEDFORD HAS ISSUED A BEACH
HAZARDS STATEMENT FOR SNEAKER WAVES...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM
LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.

* HAZARDS...INCOMING LONG PERIOD NORTHWEST SWELL WILL PRODUCE THE
  POTENTIAL FOR DANGEROUS SNEAKER WAVES.

* TIMING...THE LARGEST THREAT FOR SNEAKER WAVES IS EXPECTED LATE
  TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE...ALL BEACHES ALONG THE CURRY, COOS, AND
  DOUGLAS COUNTY COASTS.

* POTENTIAL IMPACTS...LARGE SNEAKER WAVES CAN ARRIVE SUDDENLY AND
  WITHOUT WARNING, PUSHING WATER VERY FAR UP THE BEACH AND
  SWEEPING PEOPLE OFF THEIR FEET AND INTO THE OCEAN, WHERE COLD
  AND DEEP WATER POSE A LIFE THREATENING RISK. THESE WAVES CAN
  ALSO LIFT AND MOVE LARGE LOGS AND DEBRIS, WHICH IN TURN CAN
  CRUSH OR INJURE THOSE CAUGHT IN THE WATER. USE EXTRA CAUTION,
  STAY AWAY FROM THE WATER, AND NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO THE OCEAN.

CURRENTS...LONGSHORE CURRENTS...SNEAKER WAVES AND OTHER HAZARDS
CREATE LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS IN THE SURF ZONE. CAUTION
SHOULD BE USED WHEN IN OR NEAR THE WATER.
