THE MONTH OF AUGUST OF 72.1 DEGREES WAS 0.7 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL.

AUGUST WAS MARKED BY SHORT-LIVED SWINGS BETWEEN ABOVE- AND BELOW-
NORMAL TEMPERATURES...WITH NONE STRAYING VERY FAR FROM NORMAL...AND
BY PERIODIC SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.  THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE OF

AND 18TH.  THE LOW OF 45 ON THE 21ST WAS THE COOLEST READING OF THE
MONTH.  THUNDERSTORMS BROUGHT WIND GUSTS UP TO 51 MPH ON THE 11TH.
THOUGH RAIN WAS MEASURED ON 9 DAYS IN AUGUST...MOST RAINS WERE
LIGHT...LEAVING THE TOTAL ALMOST AN INCH BELOW NORMAL.

FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS OF JUNE THROUGH AUGUST...NORFOLK WAS SLIGHTLY
DRIER THAN NORMAL...WITH NEAR-NORMAL TEMPERATURES. THE AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 73.3 DEGREES WAS 0.6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL AND THE
55TH WARMEST SUMMER ON RECORD. THE TOTAL PRECIPITATION OF 8.42
INCHES WAS 2.41 INCHES BELOW NORMAL AND THE 34TH DRIEST ON RECORD.
