...WET JULY IN KOTZEBUE...

A VERY STRONG RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE SOUTHWEST BERING SEA ALONG WITH A
NORTH-SOUTH ORIENTED TROUGH WELL NORTH OF BARROW...DURING A MAJORITY OF THE
MONTH LEAD TO AN ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN OVER NORTHWEST ALASKA. THIS WAS THE
DRIVING FACTOR FOR TAD COOLER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGH A MAJORITY OF THE
MONTH.

TEMPERATURES...THE AVERAGE MAXIMUM...MINIMUM...AND AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WERE A
TAD BELOW NORMAL FOR THE MONTH. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS
BROKEN DURING THE MONTH.


7/6/14 - NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 77 DEGREES BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 76
DEGREES SET BACK IN 1987.

7/7/2014 - NEW HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 80 DEGREES BREAKING THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 77
DEGREES SET BACK IN 2009.



PRECIPITATION...IT WAS THE 11TH WETTEST MONTH IN STATION HISTORY. THERE WERE NO
RECORDS SET DURING THE MONTH. THERE WERE A FEW BRIEF PERIODS OF MODERATE TO
HEAVY RAINFALL OBSERVED DURING THE 13TH...15TH..AND 17TH OF THE MONTH. THERE
WERE ONLY SEVEN DAYS DURING THE MONTH WITHOUT RAINFALL OBSERVED.
