Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northern Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
455 AM CST Tue Jan 16 2018

.DISCUSSION...

An arctic cold front will continue to push southeastward through
the TN Valley this morning, followed by a band of generally light
snow. Snowfall accumulations will likely be in the 0.5-2 inch
range, and a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the
entire region today. North-northwest winds will strengthen in the
wake of the front and produce dangerously low wind chills
overnight, and a Wind Chill Advisory has also been issued for this
threat. Although skies will become clear rather quickly on
Wednesday morning, temperatures will remain below freezing for the
duration of the day, reducing the potential for snow melt.
Transport winds will remain in the 10-20 mph range both today and
Wednesday, with an increase in mixing heights resulting in an
improvement in smoke dispersion by tomorrow.

A warming trend is expected to begin by Thursday, as low-level
winds shift to the southwest. The combination of warmer afternoon
temps and lingering dry air will lead to afternoon RH in the
25-30% range across portions of the area on Thursday, and across
most of the area on Friday. Moisture will increase over the
weekend as winds shift to the southeast and strengthen, with
scattered-numerous showers possible from Sunday into Sunday night.

Fog potential over the next few days: None at this time.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: Afternoon RH will fall into
the 25-30% range across portions of the region on Thursday and
across most of the region on Friday. However, light winds will
reduce the threat for red flag conditions.
