Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northern Alabama
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
246 PM CST Sat Nov 18 2017

.DISCUSSION...

A strong cold front nearing the Mississippi River region as of
this writing will continue heading eastward, moving across
Northern Alabama in the very late afternoon and during the
evening. Numerous showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms
will precede and accompany the front. A deepening area of low
pressure south of the Great Lakes was helping to produce windy
conditions across the region today. SW winds in the 20-30 mph
range were common, with some gusts higher than 40 mph in the
higher terrain.

As the front passes from west to east, southwest winds will
become northwesterly this evening, then gradually diminish from
west to east late this evening. Post frontal showers will also
taper off from west to east, as drier and much colder air
filters in from the west. Generally Good to Good smoke dispersion
rates on Sunday will become Poor on Monday, due to low mixing
heights and lighter transport winds.

After highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s today, highs on
Sunday will only warm into the upper 40s. With an exception of
areas located by large bodies of water, a hard freeze is in the
forecast for the entire region Sunday night, with lows falling
into the mid and upper 20s. Sunny and a little warmer on Monday
with highs in the mid 50s.

Fog potential over the next few days: None at this time.

Potential for Red Flag Conditions: None at this time.
