FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR EASTERN KENTUCKY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON KY
612 AM EST THU DEC 18 2014

.DISCUSSION...AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE IS CURRENTLY RESULTING IN A
BAND OF MOISTURE ACROSS SOUTHERN KENTUCKY AND MUCH OF TENNESSEE.
MEANWHILE...SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE IN PLACE HAS CREATE A LAYER OF DRY
AIR FOR WHICH ANY MOISTURE WILL HAVE TO OVERCOME TO REACH THE
SURFACE. IT IS POSSIBLE...HOWEVER...THAT SOME LIGHT SNOW AND SLEET
COULD SQUEEZE OUT OF THIS SYSTEM ALONG THE TENNESSEE BORDER OVER THE
NEXT FEW HOURS...FOLLOWED BY SPRINKLES ONCE TEMPS RISE ABOVE
FREEZING. THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN AND DISSIPATE BY EARLY
AFTERNOON...THOUGH SOME LINGERING FLURRIES ARE STILL POSSIBLE INTO
THIS EVENING ACROSS PARTS OF EASTERN KY. OTHERWISE...SURFACE HIGH
PRESSURE WILL KEEP A SUBSIDENCE INVERSION IN PLACE OVER THE NEXT 24
HOURS. THIS WILL KEEP LIGHT WINDS NEAR THE SURFACE ALONG WITH CLOUDY
CONDITIONS. HOWEVER...A STRONG UPPER LEVEL JET STREAK...ALSO ACROSS
SOUTHERN KENTUCKY AND TENNESSEE TODAY...WILL KEEP VERY STRONG
WESTERLY WINDS ABOVE AROUND 6K FT AGL.
