FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
233 PM PDT TUE AUG 30 2016

...COOLER THAN NORMAL WITH SHOWERS AT TIMES THROUGH FRIDAY...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...THE TRANSITION TO A COOLER AND CLOUDIER
WEATHER PATTERN IS UNDERWAY AS ONSHORE FLOW STRENGTHENS ACROSS THE
REGION. A WEAK COLD FRONT WILL SLOWLY MOVE ONSHORE WEDNESDAY...
BRINGING THE POTENTIAL FOR LIGHT RAIN. A POTENTIALLY STRONGER
SYSTEM IS EXPECTED LATE THURSDAY OR FRIDAY...POSSIBLY BRINGING
WETTING RAIN BY THE END OF THE WEEK.

.DISCUSSION...THE RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WARM
AND DRY WEATHER THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS IS SLOWLY BREAKING DOWN AND
MOVING EAST...ALLOWING COOLER ONSHORE FLOW TO DEVELOP ACROSS THE
FORECAST AREA. A WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE IS MOVING ACROSS THE
SOUTH OREGON CASCADES THIS AFTERNOON...BUT REMAINS TOO WEAK AND
TOO FAR SOUTHEAST TO PRODUCE LIGHTNING OR MUCH IN THE WAY OF
SHOWERS FOR OUR FORECAST AREA. THE PRIMARY IMPACT OF THIS SYSTEM
WILL BE TO ENHANCE ONSHORE FLOW THROUGH THE COLUMBIA GORGE AND
ACROSS THE CASCADE PASSES...BRINGING COOLER TEMPERATURES AND
HIGHER RH. MEANWHILE A COLD FRONT PRESENTLY ABOUT 200 MILES OFF
THE PAC NW COAST IS SLOWLY APPROACHING...AND COULD BRING A LITTLE
RAIN TO THE FORECAST AREA WEDNESDAY. EARLY ON THURSDAY THE REGION
WILL BE BETWEEN WEATHER SYSTEMS...BUT DEEP ONSHORE FLOW WILL KEEP
TEMPERATURES COOL ACROSS THE FORECAST AREA. A STRONGER AND EVEN
COOLER SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO MOVE IN LATER THURSDAY OR FRIDAY...
POTENTIALLY BRINGING SOME WETTING RAIN BY THE END OF THE WEEK.
TEMPERATURES APPEAR TO RUN BELOW NORMAL FOR THE REMAINDER OF THIS
WEEK AND LIKELY THIS WEEKEND AS WELL. WEAGLE
