FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR SW VA...SE WV AND NW NC
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BLACKSBURG VA
306 PM EST SAT JAN 21 2017

.DISCUSSION...

ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL LIKELY OVER THE NEXT 72 HOURS...WITH RAIN
TOTALS TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT OF 1 TO 3 INCHES.

A WEAK FRONTAL BOUNDARY SITUATED SOUTH OF THE AREA WILL CONTINUE
TO BE THE FOCUS FOR IMPULSES TO TRAVEL ALONG OVERNIGHT INTO SUNDAY
RESULTING IN ADDED ROUNDS OF LIGHT TO MODERATE RAINFALL. THE
HEAVIEST OF THE RAIN WILL OCCUR SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY AS A
STRONGER AREA OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS OVER THE MID-MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY AND MOVES NORTHEAST INTO THE AREA. THIS SYSTEM MAY BRING
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN ALONG WITH EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS SUNDAY
NIGHT INTO EARLY MONDAY. ADDED HEAVIER BANDS OF RAIN MAY ALSO
PERSIST ACROSS THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS LATER MONDAY INTO MONDAY
NIGHT AS THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE SHIFTS EAST. STRONG NORTHWEST
WINDS ARE EXPECTED BEHIND THIS SYSTEM OVER THE HIGHER RIDGES LATER
MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY BEFORE HIGH PRESSURE SHIFTS OVERHEAD.
THIS SHOULD FINALLY BRING A RETURN TO DRY WEATHER UNDER LIGHTER
WINDS FOR THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK.
