...HEAT ADVISORY FOR COASTAL PLAINS COUNTIES THIS AFTERNOON...

.TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND LOW 100S COUPLED WITH DEWPOINTS
IN THE UPPER 60S AND LOW 70S ARE RESULTING IN HEAT INDICES
EXCEEDING 108 DEGREES THIS AFTERNOON FOR LOCATIONS ACROSS THE
COASTAL PLAINS. ANOTHER FEW HOURS OF HEATING IS STILL POSSIBLE IN
THESE AREAS AND HEAT INDICES COULD REACH AS HIGH AS 112 IN SOME
LOCATIONS. TEMPERATURES AND HEAT INDICES SHOULD BEGIN TO SUBSIDE
BY THE EARLY EVENING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO HAS ISSUED A
HEAT ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CDT THIS EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE...99 TO 102 DEGREES WITH HEAT INDICES UP TO 112
  DEGREES.

* IMPACTS...HEAT RELATED AILMENTS WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR THOSE THAT
  ARE EXPOSED TO THE HEAT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. IF WORKING OR
  PERFORMING OTHER STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES OUTDOORS...AILMENTS MAY
  BEGIN AFTER SHORT PERIODS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME
OUTSIDE...ESPECIALLY IN CONTACT WITH DIRECT SUNLIGHT. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO THE EVENING OR
TOMORROW MORNING.

KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE.
WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT
SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN
EMERGENCY...CALL 911.
