EARLY MONDAY...

THUNDERSTORMS RUMBLED ACROSS THE FAIRBANKS AREA DURING THE
WEE HOURS MONDAY MORNING. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS REPORTED
DURING THE 30 HOUR PERIOD ENDING AT 12 AM AKDT TUESDAY MORNING

AT FAIRBANKS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT...THE 1.13 INCH DELUGE BROUGHT
THE JULY TOTAL TO 4.49 INCHES WHICH IS THE 4TH HIGHEST AMOUNT ON
RECORD FOR JULY. THE JULY RECORD IS 5.96 INCHES SET IN 2003.
A SUBSTANTIAL PORTION OF THIS RAINFALL...0.65 INCHES...FELL
DURING A TORRENTIAL DELUGE BETWEEN 553 AM AKDT AND 753 AM AKDT
MONDAY. ANOTHER 0.36 INCH FELL BETWEEN 358 AM AKDT AND 453 AM
AKDT. HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS WHICH OCCUR DURING THIS TIME OF THE DAY
ARE HIGHLY UNUSUAL.

AT THE FAIRBANKS AIRPORT...THE RAINFALL AMOUNT FOR JUNE AND JULY
COMBINED IS NOW UP TO 8.05 INCHES. THIS AMOUNT HAS ALREADY
EXCEEDED THE RECORD OF 7.02 INCHES WHICH OCCURRED IN 1949.

WITH THIS MUCH RAIN...FAIRBANKS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO SET A NEW
RECORD FOR TOTAL SUMMER RAINFALL FOR THE MONTHS OF JUNE THROUGH
AUGUST. THE CURRENT TOTAL OF 8.05 INCHES IS THE 5TH HIGHEST TOTAL
FOR THE SUMMER SEASON...WITH MORE THAN HALF OF THE SUMMER SEASON
STILL AHEAD OF US. THE RECORD SUMMER SEASON TOTAL OF 11.59 INCHES
OCCURRED IN 1930.
