AND HASTINGS NEBRASKA...

NEEDLESS TO SAY...UNUSUAL LATE-FALL WARMTH PAID A VISIT TO SOUTH
CENTRAL NEBRASKA AND NORTH CENTRAL KANSAS ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY,
NOV. 28-29, 2014. ON BOTH DAYS...TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE AREA
SOARED INTO THE 65-80 DEGREE RANGE...WELL ABOVE NORMAL/AVERAGE
VALUES IN THE 40S FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.

STATIONS WITHIN ITS COVERAGE AREA: GRAND ISLAND AND HASTINGS. SEE
BELOW FOR SEVERAL DETAILS REGARDING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS BRIEF
BUT NOTABLE WARM SPELL AT THESE SITES:

(TEMPERATURE RECORDS AT GRAND ISLAND DATE BACK 119 YEARS TO 1895)

- DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET ON BOTH DAYS:
  NOV. 28:  RECORD HIGH OF 70 (PREVIOUS 67 IN 1986)
  NOV. 29:  RECORD HIGH OF 78 (PREVIOUS 71 IN 1932)

- IT HAD BEEN 54 YEARS SINCE GRAND ISLAND GOT THIS WARM DURING
THE FINAL WEEK OF NOVEMBER (78 DEGREES ON NOV. 25, 1960).
HOWEVER...THIS WAS NOT THE LATEST OCCURRENCE OF A TEMPERATURE
THIS WARM DURING A CALENDAR YEAR AS IT REACHED 80 ON DEC. 6, 1939.

- THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE TWO DAYS WAS 74 DEGREES.
THE LAST TIME CONSECUTIVE DAYS AVERAGED THIS WARM DURING THE
SECOND HALF OF NOVEMBER WAS ALSO 54 YEARS AGO (AVERAGE OF 76.5
DEGREES FROM NOV. 25-26, 1960).

- ON THE 29TH...THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DAILY HIGH OF 78 AND
THE LOW OF 25 WAS 53 DEGREES. OUT OF OVER 40,000 DAYS OF
TEMPERATURE DATA AT GRAND ISLAND...THIS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE
DAILY HIGH AND LOW TIED FOR THE 25TH-LARGEST ON RECORD. THE
LARGEST DAILY DIFFERENCE ON RECORD AT GRAND ISLAND WAS 65 DEGREES
ON MARCH 17, 1934 (HIGH OF 75...LOW OF 10).

- DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET ON BOTH DAYS:
  NOV. 28: RECORD HIGH OF 74 DEGREES (PREVIOUS 70 IN 1932)
  NOV. 29: RECORD HIGH OF 80 DEGREES (PREVIOUS 68 IN 2003)

- THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME ON RECORD THAT HASTINGS REACHED 80
DURING THE SECOND HALF OF NOVEMBER. HOWEVER...THIS WAS NOT THE
LATEST OCCURRENCE OF 80 DEGREES DURING A CALENDAR YEAR AS IT ALSO
REACHED 80 ON DEC. 23, 1964.

- THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR THE TWO DAYS WAS 77 DEGREES.
THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME ON RECORD THAT CONSECUTIVE DAYS AVERAGED
THIS WARM DURING THE SECOND HALF OF NOVEMBER. THE PREVIOUS RECORD
WAS AN AVERAGE OF 75 DEGREES FROM NOV. 25-26, 1960.

- ON THE 29TH...THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DAILY HIGH OF 80 AND
THE LOW OF 26 WAS 54 DEGREES. OUT OF OVER 35,000 DAYS OF
TEMPERATURE DATA AT HASTINGS...THIS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE DAILY
HIGH AND LOW TIED FOR THE 25TH-LARGEST ON RECORD. THE LARGEST
DAILY DIFFERENCE ON RECORD AT HASTINGS WAS 69 DEGREES ON FEB. 22,
1918 (HIGH OF 60...LOW OF -9)
