...Early first frost and first snowfall this year...

Many locations across central and southwest Montana have already
received not only their first frost, but also their first snowfall
of the season. How do these dates compare to normal?

No location set any record for the earliest frost or snowfall of
record. Most areas have had their earliest frost of record during
the month of August. Early September snowfalls are not common, but
no early snowfall records were set this year. Most areas have
recorded their earliest snowfall of record in late August, and at
most locations, this was the earliest of any snowfall since August
1992.

At Dillon, this was the earliest frost since 2008. At Great Falls,
it was the earliest freezing temperature since 2005, while at Havre
it was the earliest since 1992. Helena had their earliest frost
since 1999.
