POST TROPICAL CYCLONE REPORT...TYPHOON MEKKALAHA (01W)...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU
530 PM CHST FRIDAY FEBRUARY 20 2015

CORRECTED TIME OF THIS REPORT

FINAL REPORT

REPORT FROM THE EFFECTS OF TYPHOON MEKKALAHA (01W) AS IT FORMED AS A
DISTURBANCE SOUTHWEST OF KOSRAE NEAR 3N 160E ON 7 JAN 2015 UNTIL IT
MOVED OUT OF THE WFO GUAM AOR NEAR 11.5N 130E ON 16 JAN 2015 AS A
TROPICAL STORM. MEKKALAHA INTENSIFIED INTO A TYPHOON JUST PRIOR TO
REACHING SAMAR IN THE PHILLIPINES ON 17 JAN. AS A WEAK TROPICAL
STORM...MEKKALAHA MOVED THROUGH YAP STATE SOUTH OF FAIS...NEARLY
OVER ULITHI AND THEN NORTH OF YAP ISLAND. GUAM AND THE SOUTHERN MARIANA
ISLANDS WERE INDIRECTLY AFFECTED BY MEKKALAHA BECAUSE OF A
SIMULTANEOUS PASSAGE OF A SHEAR LINE AT THE TIME OF CLOSEST APPROACH
THAT SERVED TO INCREASE THE PRESSURE GRADIENT AND ENHANCE PRIMARILY THE
WINDS OVER GUAM AND ROTA.
