...MINOR ICE JAMS RESULTING IN ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS ON MULTIPLE
RIVERS IN WESTERN AND CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN...

THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF A MINOR ICE JAM IN ONTONAGON COUNTY AFFECTING
AREAS OF THE MIDDLE BRANCH OF THE ONTONAGON RIVER...BETWEEN BOND
FALLS AND WHERE THE BALTIMORE RIVER MEETS THE MIDDLE BRANCH OF THE
ONTONAGON RIVER. ADDITIONAL AREAS WHERE ICE JAMS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED
OR ARE SUSPECTED INCLUDE THE ESCANABA RIVER OVER MAINLY DELTA COUNTY
AND THE AU TRAIN RIVER IN ALGER COUNTY.

DUE TO NO SIGNIFICANT PERIOD OF THAWING TEMPERATURES EXPECTED...IT
IS UNKNOWN WHEN THE ICE JAMS WILL BREAK IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.
OFFICIALS ARE MONITORING RIVER LEVELS CLOSELY. THOSE ALONG RIVERS
WITH FREE FLOWING WATER ARE ADVISED THAT RIVER LEVELS WILL CONTINUE
TO FLUCTUATE DUE TO CONTINUING ICE BUILDUP. ADDITIONAL STATEMENTS
WILL BE ISSUED BY NWS MARQUETTE IF MORE DETAILED INFORMATION BECOMES
AVAILABLE OR IF ANY OF THE ICE JAMS WORSEN.
