...Dangerous Heat the remainder of the afternoon across all of
Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley...

The strong south to southwest winds and subsidence due to a strong
ridge of high pressure and in wake of Tropical Depression Cindy is
producing very high temperatures this afternoon. Temperatures will
continue to rise through at least 5 pm with monthly and All-time
maximum records being challenge. At 2 pm temperatures ranged from
100 degrees at Bayview and Brownsville to 104 at Harlingen to a
scorching 109 at McAllen. Humidity levels are lower then normal
but still high enough in some locations pushing the heat index
temperatures in the 110-114 range. Heating will continue for the
next 2 to 3 hours with only a slow decrease before sunset. Strong
southerly winds overnight will keep temperatures elevated with
most location not falling below 80s. Hot temperatures are expected
once again Friday with higher humidity pushing heat indices up
near 115 degrees. Take precautions to product yourself, your
children and the elderly as the heat wave persist.

Residents planning outdoor activities should drink plenty of
water, wear light weight and light colored clothing, and take
frequent breaks from the heat. Young children and pets should
never be left unattended in vehicles, but this is especially true
during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
