...Strong gusty winds across central North Carolina...
...Potential for severe thunderstorms increasing across the
Triad...

Breezy southwest winds will gusts between 30 and 40 miles an hour
this afternoon across central North Carolina. Sporadic gusts
around 45 miles an hour may occur.

Winds of this magnitude will easily toss around objects such as
trash cans and lawn furniture, as well as knock down a few tree
branches. Operators of high profile vehicles will notice periods
of difficult handling.

Late this afternoon, a line of showers and thunderstorms will
approach the northwest Piedmont. Storms within this line will
have the potential to produce strong or damaging straight line
winds, capable of knocking down trees, powerlines, as well as
minor roof damage. If warnings are issued for these storms, take
cover immediately indoors and stay away from windows, and doors
that lead outdoors. Based on the expected movement, the storms may
arrive in the Triad region between 5 and 7 PM.
