...Summary...
The National Weather Service in New York NY has confirmed a
Microburst /Straight Line Wind Damage/ near Cornwall in Orange
County New York on June 30, 2017.

With assistance of the Cornwall NY Office of Emergency Management,
the National Weather Service conducted a storm survey of wind
damage that resulted from severe thunderstorms.

Many large hardwood trees were downed, some falling on power
lines, a house and a shed in an area bounded from near North
Jacquelin Street and Briarcliff Place to Mill Street and Bede
Terrace. One tree was completely sheared off just above the
ground.

Based on the ground survey and doppler radar imagery, the National
Weather Service concluded that a microburst with estimated wind
speeds from 86 to 96 mph occurred across this area of Cornwall.

The National Weather Service thanks the Cornwall Office of
Emergency Management for their assistance in performing this
survey.

For reference...
A microburst is a convective downdraft with an affected outflow
area of less than 2 1/2 miles wide and peak winds lasting less
than 5 minutes. Microbursts may induce dangerous horizontal and
vertical wind shears...which can adversely affect aircraft
performance and cause property damage. Straight-line winds are
generally any wind that is not associated with rotation...used
mainly to differentiate them from tornadic winds.
